Storing and finding snippets and notes on windows

Perl Squirrel likes to store nuggets here and there, but finding them again is another matter.

Here are some suggested PC Programs written by others that I like....

grepWin: Regular expression search and replace for Windows

This is a real nice search tool ... some highlighted features:

  • Search by Text String or by Regular Expression
  • Specify starting directory
  • Specify file types to search on
  • Display files and text context of matches
  • Configure your favorite editor to go right to the line where the match occurred
  • To search for "awk" and "file" on the same line, enter: ^(?=.*awk)(?=.*file)
  • To search for either "awk" or "file" , enter: awk|file

Treepad: Business Edition

I have used this PC program for a number of years and it works very well ... some highlighted features:

  • Search by Text String or by Regular Expression
  • Left side of screen is a hierarchical tree of node names
  • Right side of screen is the content of a node (that can be text or graphics)
  • Treepad makes it very convenient for cut-and-paste notes from the web
  • Treepad files can be encrypted when not in use
  • Many more features...check it out.
